IO Fox is a celebrity pop-star and scientist — the “Pop Star Scientist” — caught between public celebrity and a private obsession with Foxite. The story opens one year after the massive success of Force of Nature.
Early life & education
IO grew up in a middle-class family in the Philippines, attending an all-boys Catholic school and then an international school. A National Geographic kid raised on cosmology and Air Crash Investigation, he first wanted to be an aerospace engineer before shifting to materials science after learning about global climate issues. He sang his first public performance at his First Communion in second grade, took up piano in fifth grade, and played violin in his high-school string orchestra.
He earned a perfect score on his IB exams and admission to MIT to study Materials Science and Engineering (Course 3). At MIT he joined the top a cappella group, launched his solo music career junior year, and by senior year was known as the “Pop Star Scientist.”
Rise & fall
After MIT, IO engineered the VDMH-1 cold-fusion reactor at the University of Talaris, founded Vulpine Dynamics, and discovered Varyon via Varyolithography. He launched the VARYON Dumbbells and PWRBND and made PWR UP a global movement. In June, direct Foxite exposure turned him into a living Varyon conduit.
