SHADOW is IO Fox’s single of August 11, 2026, “a darker, introspective track about facing one’s reflection.” It is the first release of the PWR UP era to arrive without a product launch attached to it, and it landed while Varyon Syndrome was the dominant subject in Talaris.
IO has said he wrote and shot it during the stretch when, in his words, everything was going wrong and he did not have the answers.
The video
The video follows IO across a single day and night. He wakes in the open, finds a note he did not leave for himself, and moves through a lab, a forest, a hot tub at dusk, and a road lit by fire. A dark figure shadows him throughout, and the direction holds the frame of a horror film rather than a music video, so it is some time before the audience is allowed to understand that the figure is following him deliberately.
The final sequence has IO running at the figure rather than away from it. The two collide and merge.
Asked about the reading, IO has been direct that the figure is the pressure he has been under and the part of himself that has been reacting badly to it, and that the ending is what he wants rather than what has happened. Reviewers have noted that this is a considerable distance from PWR UP PUP four months earlier.
